Our Ultimate Caving trips bring the aspiring explorer on a very special journey indeed, deep beneath the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Awesome underground streamways, waterfalls, airy traverses, climbs and vertical drops.....you'll encounter everything on this caving trip!!!
Meeting at our premises near Stainforth, your instructor will get you kitted out in all the required equipment before departing for the caves. The caving trip will last much of the day, and whereas our Adventure Caving session tackles one vertical section (called a pitch), the Ultimate Caving trip will descend much deeper into the cave system, taking on several vertical sections and giving a real sense of what 'Potholing' is, within the finest region in the UK for vertical caving!
At one of our venues, you will visit 'The Bridge' - a huge boulder wedged across the spectacular, 60m deep, Alum Pot main shaft, after an impressive journey in via the Long Churn Caves. At another venue called Sell Gill Holes, three pitches up to 14m deep lead to a huge underground cavern with 40m waterfall crashing in! At Heron Pot, a classic through trip can be enjoyed abseiling down two pitches to exit a lower entrance. We are really passionate about caving at Yorkshire Dales Guides, and have a huge range of venues to choose from to suit the group.
For some more advanced venues, the day might start with a quick course in abseiling in our very own purpose built vertical caving training facility (see photo below)!
Ideally you would have tried caving before (and so know you love it!), but its not essential.....all you need to be is fit, up for a challenge, and with a good head for heights!
More information will be provided following booking, including directions, kit lists, more information about the day and medical forms.

Come and join us for an afternoon of fun at a local crag, learning how to climb and abseil! Rock climbing is an exciting (and highly addictive!) sport, which is great for developing physical strength. Working out the sequences of moves to get up a climb and reaching the top gives a real buzz and will have you queuing to get on the next climb!
These afternoon climbing sessions are designed for people who have always wanted to have a go at climbing and have little or no experience. This taster session will introduce you to climbing on our wonderful local limestone.
Your highly experienced and qualified instructor will meet you at the climbing venue, which will most likely be in the Settle or Ingleton area. Full directions (as well as more information about the day) will be given upon booking, as well as a kit list detailing what to bring although we will provide all the required climbing kit including helmet and harness. In the event of very poor weather meaning we cant climb outside, there is the option of a coached session at the Ingleton Climbing Wall (additional fee per person), or an introductory caving trip.
